On Monday 26th of May, Grade's 2/3/4C, 2/3/4N & 3/4/5BÂ caught the train from Lilydale into the city to visit the Old Melbourne Gaol and the State Library of Victoria. Taking in Flagstaff Gardens along the way. The trip featured talks from the Old Melbourne Gaol staff and State Library tour guides. Of particular interest were Ned Kelly's armour and various "death masks". Apparently there were some very tired people by the time the train pulled back into Lilydale, but a good time was had by all. |

As part of the garden beautification program grade 5/6C has been busy with their gazebo garden. Planting is well underway, mulching is nearly completed and rocks and garden ornaments have been strategically placed. The whole grade worked hard carting soil from the oval and mulch down to the gazebo to turn this area into a great garden. They have planted Australian natives and grasses and when the plants grow they will provide a very pleasant environment in and around the gazebo. An old desk, a book stand and a dilapidated wheelbarrow have been pulled out from under the school and used as ornaments around which creeping plants will be planted. The grade would like to thank Rose and Barry Mace for their hard work preparing for our garden - loosening the dirt on the dirt pile, clearing the area of self-seeded oak trees and other unwanted plants and weeds and prining the overgrown trees and then supervising the work. This will now become an on-going project for the grade and our aim is to incorporate steps from the gazebo down to the basketball court, stopping the muddy quagmire that develops whenever it rains. |
