Attendance It is in your child’s best interest to attend regularly and to be on time as this helps the class to get off to a good start. If, for any reason, your child is absent please send along a note the next day. Enrolment Children may be enrolled if they reach the age of five by 30th April. It is not compulsory for children to attend school until they turn six. To enrol your prep child you must provide documentary evidence of date of birth (eg. Birth Certificate). An Immunisation Certificate (obtainable from the local council) is necessary for all children from prep to grade 6. Emergency Information An emergency information file for each child is held at the school. This enables contact with the parents in case of illness or accident. Please make sure that any allergies or disabilities are listed on file and that they are kept up to date. The office must always have a current address and phone numbers. A medical information form, and, if applicable, an asthma management form are updated annually. First Aid There are first aid facilities at each campus to use in emergencies. Please remember that if your child is ill, he or she is best looked after at home where proper personal attention can be given. Lunches The children will not be permitted to leave the school grounds during lunch time. Both campuses will offer lunches on particular days. Check with each particular campus to clarify which days the canteen will be open. Uniform The School Council and staff require students to wear the official Millwarra school uniform. The school colours are jade and navy. Our policy is that children must be in school uniforms on all school excursions, on other nominated occasions and each day. The uniform is available from the school uniform shop at the Millgrove Campus. Orders can be placed at either campus Banking Student banking day is Tuesday. Millwarra Primary School Newsletter Our weekly newsletter is an important link between home and school. The youngest child in each family will receive a copy each Thursday. Homework Our school has a homework policy. We believe in developing a regular homework routine. If you have any queries about homework ask your child’s teacher. Expensive Toys and Equipment We advise parents not to allow these to be brought to school as they may easily be damaged or lost. In special circumstances arrangements can be made with the teacher. Children’s Books and School Needs In order to keep costs to parents at a minimum the school has organised a bulk buying program for all books and supplies. Towards the end of each year every child will receive a booklist for the following year’s needs. Parents who are eligible for the Education Maintenance Allowance (holders of a current Health Care/Pension Concession Centrelink Card) may use this to pay for books and fees. Reports and Interviews Initial parent / teacher information interviews are held early in the year. A formal interview is held mid year. A written report on each child will be given to parents in June and December. Individual interviews, other than the above, may be arranged with the class teacher. Picking up children after school Occasionally, due to some mix up, children are not picked up after school. If this occurs, children should come back to the office where they may remain until they are safely collected. Fire Emergency Both of our campuses are in fire prone areas, hence the need for the development and maintenance of a safe environment continues to be of paramount importance. We ask parents to carefully note the following:
Head Lice The Health (Infectious Diseases) Regulations provide for the exclusion from school of children who have head lice, until appropriate treatment has commenced. Immunisation All immunisations traditionally given at primary school have now been moved forward to pre school age. School Nurse The school nurse conducts free medical examinations annually for all prep children, and referrals from teachers or parents for other year levels. Dental Van Dental examinations and procedures are conducted by the school dental service every two years for all grade levels. A fee for service now applies. Infectious Diseases Exclusion of patients and contacts from school. ‘Contact’ means child of school age or pre-school age living in the same house as the patient, ‘patient’ includes carrier, and ‘school’ includes any pre-school centre, kindergarten, primary school or post primary school. A patient or contact shall be prevented from attending school unless the conditions prescribed are complied with. |
