Student Code of Conduct Print
The overall intention of this student code of conduct is to highlight and promote positive student behaviour in the secure, purposeful environment of Millwarra Primary School.

The code of conduct has been formulated within and is consistent with Department of Education and Training (DE&T) guidelines and regulations.

We recognise that our school must provide all children with a safe, orderly environment that meets their needs at all levels of their primary school life and maximises opportunities for all students to strive for excellence. Opportunities and the activities enabling students to be successful are important, in not only building self-esteem and resilience, but also in creating a sense of belonging. Students need to be involved and connected to the school.

Millwarra believes that our approach to welfare and discipline should be proactive in building a community free of harassment and fear, with a focus on preventative and early intervention measures.

We recognise that learning is centred on discipline – on the behaviour needed to achieve the learning, the discipline of the activity itself and the self-discipline required to achieve the objectives.

The code of conduct gives priority to enhancing such self-discipline and respect for the rights of others.

It is based on the following principles:
  • All individuals in the school community, students, parents and staff have rights and responsibilities and are to be valued and treated with respect.
  • All children have a right to work, learn and play without interference, including bullying, intimidation or other forms of harassment, to be able to fully develop their individual talent, interests and pursuit of learning.
  • All children have the right to be safe and to feel safe.
  • All children will be encouraged to be responsible for their own behaviour and to exhibit pride in their school.
  • Teachers have a right to expect to be able to teach in the atmosphere of an orderly and co-operative environment.
  • All parents have an obligation to support the school in its efforts to maintain a positive and productive teaching and learning environment.
  • The Principal and staff have an obligation to implement the Code of Conduct in a fair, reasonable and consistent manner.
  • All teachers need to have the support of administration leadership, School Council and parents in the establishment and implementation of behaviour management strategies.
